HanbitSoft, a Korean publisher, wants to bring Hellgate: London back online in the US and Europe. One problem, though: Namco-Bandai needs to give up their publishing rights for the game in NA and PAL territories before that can happen.
“There have been many inquiries from US and European Hellgate players surrounding the availability of the game in those respective territories,” wrote HanbitSoft’s CEO, Kee Young King in a recent blog post.
“HanbitSoft does own the intellectual property of Hellgate: London and is interested in providing the game in the US and Europe, but is unable to do so at this time because Namco Bandai has the publishing rights for those regions
If you haven’t guessed already, Hanbit is behind the steering wheel of Hellgate: London in Korea, and according to Gamasutra, has a San Francisco-based studio focused on the continued development of the game.
It sounds like Hanbit has their stuff together. I wonder if Namco will give up their property rights for less than 1,600 Microsoft Points? I don’t see how holding onto an MMO that they killed in January is doing them any good.
