The World’s End
Bandai Namco has announced that its epic “VRMMORPG” .hack//G.U. Last Recode is headed to Switch next year. Already available on PC and PS4, the remastered RPG quadrilogy will finally hit the Nintendo platform in spring 2022.
This unholy trinity of a package combines all three releases from the hack//G.U. series — Rebirth, Reminisce, and Redemption — along with a fourth chapter, Reconnection. The titles tell the story of protagonist Haseo, as they travel through the mind-bending digital landscape of “The World” on a mission of vengeance, determined to put an end to a mysterious player known as “Tri-Edge” — responsible for brutal “in-game” actions that have left Haseo’s friend Shino in a real-world coma.
.hack//G.U. Last Recode reworked the original PS2 releases, offering enhanced graphics at higher resolution, retweaked game balance, bug fixes, improved framerates, and new modes. This Nintendo Switch release has been a long time coming, as publisher Bandai Namco had previously shut down suggestions that the collection would see release on the Nintendo platform. As such, this latest announcement might come as something of a surprise, with the fanbase no doubt accepting the release into their electronic, cyberized hearts.
.hack//G.U. Last Recode launches on Nintendo Switch March 11, 2022.
