It’s definitely got clowns, and it’s definitely creepy
We’ve seen plenty of games adapted to movies recently, but movies adapted to games have been a less common occurrence. As we learned today from the Gamescom stream, we’re getting a Killer Klowns from Outer Space multiplayer horror game based on the horror/comedy film from 1988. The movie has had a cult following basically since it came out, and it has traumatized us with creepy clowns for decades.
The Killer Klowns game also has the executive director from the Friday the 13th game attached, so it appears that the horror genre makes for some of the best adaptations. The gameplay will feature a 3v7 asymmetrical multiplayer structure, where players must work together to defend the town of Crescent Cove from the evil alien clowns.
“It’s a total bucket list item to get to work on the next chapter of such an iconic horror IP,” said executive director Randy Greenback.
“When we first heard that someone wanted to make a Killer Klowns from Outer Space game, we all had the same initial reaction: finally,” said the Chiodo Brothers, who are executive producing the project. “But nothing could have prepared us for the experience that the Good Shepherd Entertainment and Teravision teams were creating. We are thrilled by the sheer passion these folks share for the world of Killer Klowns and the care they have invested in bringing it to life in surprising new ways.”
Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is set to release sometime in early 2023 for Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. You can also check out the beta now, just go to the game’s website for more info.
