I’ve found that, in the usual glut of high-profile releases this fall, many people seem to completely have forgotten that there’s still one more potential game of the year contender waiting in the wings: Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia. The gorgeous-looking current-gen “refresh” of the storied platforming franchise is due for release on the PS3, 360, and PC this Tuesday, December 2nd (you’d think that, by now, the video would give a more concrete release date than “Holiday 2008”). Being a huge fan of the first and third last-gen titles (The Sands of Time and The Two Thrones), I’ve got high hopes for this game.
Above, you can watch the game’s fourth developer diary from Ubisoft. It’s just under five minutes long, and it provides some background on the game’s design (open-world, but not sandbox) and story. I really like the fact that there will be all kinds of different ways to complete the game, and what you see will change depending on your decisions. The “network” of the game world also sounds like it ties in with the story experience, allowing players to get to the same story points through varying paths.
So why aren’t more people talking about this game? I don’t know what the answer to that question is, but I do know that I’m trying to drum up as much excitement for Prince of Persia as I can. Be sure to check out the Destructoid review from Nick; it’ll be up on Tuesday to help you decide whether or not you should pick the game up this holiday season.
