Move over Walking Dead, there’s a new Wolf in town
Telltale is developing The Wolf Among Us with the weight of the most critically acclaimed game of 2012 on its shoulders, but it’s starting to look like the studio may have another ace up its sleeve. Game Informer‘s interview with Kevin Bruner, president and co-founder of Telltale, has revealed the first (unbelievably good looking) screens and details of The Wolf Among Us, a prequel to Vertigo’s popular comic series Fables.
While the game’s development started around the same time as The Walking Dead, it appears Telltale sees The Wolf Among Us as a continued evolution of the studio’s efforts in tech and design. Like The Walking Dead, Wolf will contain characters that reappear throughout episodes and provide tough moral choices to the player. After studying the player stats that drove The Walking Dead, Telltale is changing its approach.
“We like that 50/50 divide when we look at stats,” Bruner told Game Informer. “If everyone goes down one direction, then it really wasn’t that interesting of a choice.”
Another evolution in design is the addition of a timeline that dictates different scenarios happening at certain locations at different times. In other words, two players may have different experiences because they chose to visit an area at later or earlier.
I’ve never read Fables but I’ve been looking forward to Telltale introducing me to its world. After concerns that the game wouldn’t share The Walking Dead‘s strengths, Bruner has made me believe The Wolf Among Us will be an even better game. If not that, at least an even better looking one.
