Prime Video revealed the first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in wardrobe for the upcoming Tomb Raider series, and as you may imagine, many people have a lot to say about it.
The official Tomb Raider account posted the image of Turner in her wardrobe test for the live-action adaptation, and the reactions are pretty mixed. Shocking, I know, but gamers on the internet are displeased with something.

For the most part, fans are thrilled about the design of the costume, which looks like it’s ripped right out of the original PS1 games: circular red sunglasses, blue tank top, holsters, etc. But the quality of the costume is being called into question.
Some fans are thrilled with the first peek, however. One Instagram commenter said, “She looks identical to the game! I was a little bit nervous because I loved Alicia Vikander as Lara, and felt Sophie is maybe too ‘soft,’ but this is a great first look and can’t wait to see her in action. Great start!” Another was quite happy, saying, “she looks perfect.”
But there are quite a few dissenters, too. A lot of replies are calling it a cosplay, which is kind of confusing to me. Is this not just Lara’s attire from the games? It’s not like she’s got a mech suit where the difference in quality would be noticeable depending on budget or something.
And then, of course, there’s the litany of posts complaining about Turner’s body, asking for an actress with bigger breasts, and more nonsense of that ilk. Personally, I think she looks great in the costume, but none of that actually matters if she can’t act in the role. And that’s where all of the actual potential lies, not in her cup size, no matter how many weirdos on the internet say differently.
Tomb Raider game dev studio Crystal Dynamics is also serving as an executive producer on the show, which will be written and created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, an actress who has also written for shows like Killing Eve and Fleabag. Famed actors like Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs are also a part of the cast, so there’s reason to be excited.
After the conclusion of the current season of Fallout, Tomb Raider’s first season should be next up, followed by the upcoming God of War adaptation (which just announced Ryan Hurst as Kratos yesterday), all for Amazon’s Prime Video service. So, the company is certainly putting a big investment into video game franchises and their worlds.
