The Three Hopes story is kind of like a fifth path
In case you were wondering, the angle for the Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes story will be new: an extra path, if you will.
Fresh off of a reveal during the recent Nintendo Direct, Three Hopes once again unites Nintendo and Koei Tecmo, as they seek to print even more money. This isn’t a complete out-of-left-field marriage, as Fire Emblem Warriors is four years old now, and has had plenty of time to simmer. But this time around, Three Hopes will hopefully have a more pointed narrative.
As confirmed directly on the game’s official site, Three Hopes will feature a new storyline original to the game. As the site notes: “In this work, which inherits the world and characters, [is] a new story that could have been…” It also confirms Japanese and English voicework, among text for Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Chinese (simplified), and Chinese (traditional).
It’s a smart move. If it succeeds, Koei Tecmo and Nintendo can build on it in a second “Three Hopes” game, which could serve as a sequel to this alternate universe. If it fails, they can leave it as-is and not have to worry about the implications of the Switch game, and any potential DLC or future follow-ups. It’s a win-win! And much less of a gambit compared to how they worked in the canon of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with Age of Calamity.
