For the first time, studio Oddworld Inhabitants is ready to show off gameplay for Oddworld: Soulstorm, a project fans have waited over two decades for. The sequels and spinoffs haven’t been nearly as impactful as the original, and Inhabitants is looking to change that with Soulstorm, which follows up the New ‘n’ Tasty remake with a coherent, pointed storyline.
Unsurprisingly it looks very Oddworld-esque, as Abe is shown running around a factory setting, gathering up friends and solving puzzles. The gist is that in the wake of victory, Abe and his 300 friends, seeking food and shelter, find a drink “that has insidious ramifications for their newfound freedom.”
Soulstorm is due in “early 2020” as of the latest target from the studio today. Platforms haven’t been confirmed yet outside of the “PC and consoles” realm, but the publisher does have experience with the PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One platforms as recently as New ‘n’ Tasty. It stands to reason that they can make the Switch work.
