Here’s where to find Severian
Notorious marks in Final Fantasy XVI often pit you against the toughest beasts in the game’s natural world. Sometimes you’ll contend with Malboros, other times you’ll go up against Griffins. Or, in the case of Severian, it’s a robotic creature wielding two laser swords that also shoots orbs at you. Typical Final Fantasy stuff, really.
Fortunately, Severian isn’t too tough to find. Additionally, beating it nets you an Electrum, a valuable crafting material. Keep in mind that Severian is a level 31 encounter, so plan accordingly. Here’s everything you need to know.
Severian location & directions in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16)
You will find Severian to the west of Martha’s Rest, on the north side of the Sorrowise area. As the hunt description states, this one naturally hangs out near the Fallen ruins. Use the map above for reference.
Honestly, getting to this one is straightforward from the Martha’s Rest waypoint. Ride down the elevator, follow the path leading northwest, and you’re there. Just make sure to keep yourself healthy along the way, as Severian may pose a challenge if you just unlocked it on your hunt board.
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) Severian tips & tricks
You’ve seen Severian’s attack pattern before, though you may still feel rusty on Fallen enemy mechanics. Fortunately, we’ll get you up to speed.
Severian has two main attacks you’ll want to watch for. The first is a lunging strike with one of its beam blades, which it will wind up before dashing towards you (pictured above). Time your dodge or block accordingly.
Second, Severian will fire two orbs at you in succession. It will stagger these shots a bit, so make sure the second attack doesn’t catch you off guard. Once again, time your dodges accordingly.
As the fight progresses, you’ll begin to see Severian sporadically create energy fields around itself. This will strike the area immediately around it. After that, it will telegraph a series of AoE attacks in a circle.
To handle this, get out of the energy field the moment you see Severian charge it. Then, quickly get into melee range and hack away at it so the subsequent AoEs won’t hit you.
Once you stagger Severian once, it will use its ultimate move called Eradicate. This will make Severian bring out two beam swords that it rapidly spins around itself as it barrages you with energy balls. The easiest way to contend with Eradicate is to stay a healthy distance away, dodging the projectiles as they come while you use magic to keep piling on damage. It will finish Eradicate with a swift lunging attack, so pay very close attention to Severian’s attack animations.
Overall, just keep dodging while you get in hits wherever you can. Once you defeat Severian, you’ll earn the valuable Electrum crafting material, which you can use to make the Drakeslayer’s Belt. Congratulations!
