PlayStation VR turns three years old on October 13, and it’s impressive how much mileage Sony has gotten and continues to get! out of the little peripheral. As much as the technology itself is really showing its age in 2019, new games are trickling into next year, and plenty of old jams are still worth seeking out, especially given that Sony has said PSVR will be compatible with PlayStation 5.

It’s getting to be late enough in the year that I’d advise waiting a bit longer if you’re thinking of picking up PlayStation VR soon (we’ll be covering Black Friday bundles before you know it), but current owners have game deals to consider. Sony is hosting a PlayStation VR Anniversary sale right now.

After looking through the 75-game list, I’ve done some pruning. Here are my picks:

And a few games I can’t personally vouch for but other people seem to enjoy:

Also of interest, Sony shared the top ten “most popular” PlayStation VR games in the Americas (based on PSN account usage). The list is unsurprisingly full of familiar, platform-defining games: The Playroom VR, PlayStation VR Worlds, Resident Evil 7, Skyrim VR, Beat Saber, Job Simulator, Batman: Arkham VR, Superhot VR, and also the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Jackal Assault VR Experience.

A few of those titles Resident Evil 7, Beat Saber, and Superhot VR in particular made PlayStation VR worth it to me. They justified my purchase on their own, and everything else felt like icing on top.

Looking ahead, Sony also confirmed several upcoming release dates. The big one: Audica, a rhythm shooter from Rock Band developer Harmonix, is expected to launch on November 5 for PSVR.
