FFXIV Wings mount guide: How to get the Wings of Resolve and Ruin

Finally, wings which actually work!

Wings of Ruin and Wings of Resolve in Final Fantasy XIV

Finally, after what seems like years of waiting and wanting, Final Fantasy XIV has added the first ever functional mount wings in Dawntrail. These mounts come from level 100 extreme trials, so they’re not easy to get, but they’re absolutely worth the effort.

Before you can run the extreme trials in Dawntrail, you’ll need to unlock them. To do this, you’ll need to complete the entire Dawntrail MSQ up to and including the level 100 MSQ quest ‘Dawntrail’. After this, you’ll be able to talk to the Wandering Minstrel in Tuliyollal (X:11.1, Y:14.6)

Doing so will unlock the extreme versions of Dawntrail’s first two trials: Worqor Lar Dor (Extreme) and Everkeep (Extreme). Moving forward, when you’ve completed a newly added trial, you’ll be able to unlock the extreme version by talking to this Wandering Minstrel.

The Wings of Ruin come from the fight with Valigarmanda in Worqor Lar Dor. This first set of Wings are colored red, green, and white, with gold accents to mirror those of Valigarmanda itself.

While on the ground, only the wings themselves show up, but it’s when you take off that these mounts really shine. As soon as you leave the ground, these wings transform into a thing of beauty with multiple tails which flow behind you as you fly.

I’m not ashamed to admit that these wings are my personal favorite so far. They’re black and gold, for a start, but again they really shine when you take off. Once you leave the ground, you sprout what can only be described as a devilish tail and juxtaposing golden halo over your head. They’re stunning.

To get your hands on the Wings of Resolve, you’ll need to complete Everkeep (Extreme).  This is the fight in which you take on Zoraal Ja, and it’s a difficult fight to complete, but it’s definitely worth it for the Wings of Resolve.
