The Euro 2024 tournament is heading into the semi-final stages, and concurrently, EA’s FC 24 is seeing a huge UK sales boost.
As reported by GFK Entertainment, the soccer (football) game took the top spot in the latest UK weekly sales charts, beating out games like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, and the recently launched Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD.
FC 24 is coming home with money for EA
England has been on shaky footing throughout the whole Euro 2024 tournament. It beat Slovakia by the skin of its teeth and eliminated Switzerland in a penalty shootout.
The squad’s iffy performance and Scotland’s earlier loss, however, haven’t killed the UK footie fan enthusiasm around buying FC 24. The top 10 best-selling games this week, include:
- FC 24
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD
- Elden Ring
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Minecraft
- Grand Theft Auto V
- F1 24
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt GOTY Edition
It also helps that FC 24 added a new game mode dedicated to the Euro 2024 tournament. In past years, this could have been a game in and of itself, but it was added to this year’s footie game at no extra cost as an update. EA added the official match ball and broadcast packages to the game, making it look authentic. You can take on the tournament mode and play as one of the 24 countries that have taken part in Euro 2024, including Scotland and England.
Another factor that might be attributed to FC 24‘s recent success is its recent discounts. Until July 11, the game is 80% off on Steam. It also has the same discount on PlayStation until July 17. This matched with the excitement around the Euro 2024 tournament has likely spiked sales for this week.
FC 24 also took the top spot for the monthly chart. According to GFK (via GamesIndustry.biz), the top 10 for June 2024 consists of:
- FC 24
- Grand Theft Auto V
- F1 24
- Elden Ring
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Civilization VI
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Grand Theft Auto Online
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
The sales data consists of both physical and digital sales, but Nintendo’s information regarding its sales on the Nintendo eShop hasn’t been disclosed. As a result, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is at the No. 14 spot overall for June 2024; it also launched on June 27, at the end of the month, not having enough time to catch up for the top 10.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door leaves the top 10
Nintendo fans might be unhappy to know the beloved remaster of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has left the top 10 UK sales chart, landing at No. 12 behind It Takes Two. Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD took the top spot last week but has since dropped to third place.
The Luigi’s Mansion 2 remaster may not have impressed those who have played it. Destructoid gave it a 7 out of 10 score in its review, claiming it looks like a “hospital painted in vibrant colors.”
