Reggie Fils-Aime has always been tough guy to read. Sometimes it seems like he could give a toss about videogames and the people who play them. At other times, he seems to have a genuine passion for producing videogames that will make the world a more fun and interesting place. The only thing about Reggie I’ve ever been sure of is that he’s intense. Now that I’ve actually exchanged a couple words with Reggie, my opinion hasn’t changed. The only difference is, now I see him as a human being, and that makes me sort of love him.
You can’t see it in this video, but when I first approached Reggie, he moved away from me very quickly. It was almost like he was wearing roller shoes. His back was turned, racing for the door. He arched his head around just enough to give me the signature Reggie frown and a denial of comment.
Then he saw that I was carrying a Purple Pikmin, and before knew it, he was right next to me, smiling and joking around. I went to shake his hand after our brief interaction, but instead providing me with a regular “goodbye,” he just looked down and said “I AM A BIG PURPLE PIKMIN” and then disappeared. He’s like the Batman of Purple Pikmin enthusiasts, equal parts scary, heroic, and mysterious.
Side note — that Purple Pikmin was lost or stolen in New York City shortly after this video was shot. If you find it, please give it a good home.
