You’ll notice that there is a regular version of Helldivers 2 available in addition to a Super Citizen edition. This may be confusing to franchise newcomers, so use this guide to figure out which version is best for you.

What do you get with the Super Citizen edition of Helldivers 2?

The base version of Helldivers 2 has everything you need to get started and sink hours into it. This is the version that’ll suit most players, and it is available for $39.99 on Steam and PS5 as of February 23.

The Super Citizen edition is the deluxe version that contains the base game plus a few extra goodies. It’s slightly pricier, as you’d expect, and you can grab it for $59.99. If you buy the base version, you can upgrade to the Super Citizen edition if you change your mind. This is what you’ll get:

The cape is just a cosmetic addition that will attract players who want to stand out. Getting the title of Super Citizen is also purely a vanity addition that offers no bonuses.

The armor set gives you a 50% chance of not dying from a lethal hit. It also prevents bleed damage from chest hemorrhages. The armor looks gorgeous and is easily the best benefit of this version. The MP-98 Knight gun is exclusive to the more expensive edition, though it is not the best weapon available.

You may have noticed arcade machines inside your ship. Normally, they don’t work but with the Super Citizen edition, you’ll be able to use them. They contain a mini-game that’ll help you get better at entering stratagem sequences which can be tricky to do mid-combat. You’ll have access to all these goodies after completing the tutorial.

Despite technical issues, the game has hooked thousands of players, and a lot more will be able to play now that the concurrent player ceiling has been raised to 700,000. Ideally, the cap should be much higher, but Arrowhead is still in the process of solving server issues.

My time with Helldivers 2 has been exhilarating and despite encountering a few technical problems, I find myself repeatedly returning to it. Whether you purchase the base version or the Super Citizen one, you’re in for a great PvE experience.
