The rise of Luffy from a pirate wannabe to a God of One Piece has been remarkable. He is one of the few characters who managed to skyrocket in infamy during his career as a pirate. He has not only got himself recognized as part of the Worst Generation, but he has also been properly recognized as an Emperor of the Sea. One thing big-name pirates have going for them is their remarkable military force. For instance, Big Mom literally has islands of warriors ready to mobilize at her command.
With Luffy’s rise in infamy, it’s only natural that he himself has a fleet sailing under his name. This came into realization during the Dressrosa Arc, wherein a few of his Colosseum co-competitors underwent a sakazuki pledge to serve him. Despite Luffy’s initial reluctance, the Grand Fleet still came into being after Zoro drank all the sake. With the looming final war, we may finally see them all gathered in one place once more. As such, here’s every pirate group consisting the 5000-strong fleet.
Straw Hat Pirates
At the helm of the Grand Fleet are naturally Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy serves as the head of the entire fleet, while each member of the Straw Hat Pirates serves as a senior officer. There really isn’t any set responsibility for them, and they are not even obligated to help the others should they fall into danger. At present, the members of the Straw Hat Pirates are Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Robin, Chopper, Jimbei, Brook, and Franky. Whether additional members will join the crew is still — probably will always be — a hot topic in the fandom, though Lilith and Jewelry Bonney are the current top contenders.
Beautiful Pirates (Cavendish’s crew)
Led by the flamboyant and charismatic Cavendish, the Beautiful Pirates is the first ship of the Grand Fleet. They are known for their striking appearance and elegance. Cavendish, also known as the Pirate Prince, is a famous swordsman with a split personality. His alter ego, Hakuba, emerges when he falls asleep, becoming an uncontrollable, speed-driven berserker.
The Beautiful Pirates consists of 75 people, with Cavendish’s beauty being a point of pride for the crew. Despite their vanity, they are not to be underestimated. Cavendish’s swordsmanship and Hakuba’s terrifying speed give them a powerful edge in battle, making them a valuable part of the Grand Fleet’s overall strength.
Barto Club (Bartolomeo’s crew)
Man-Eater Bartolomeo may sound scary at first, but he is completely head over heels for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Interestingly, the other 55 members of his pirate crew, the Barto Club, also share the same sentiment. The Barto Club is the Grand Fleet’s second ship, though they are barely a proper pirate crew. Bartolomeo was formerly a gangster who decided to sail the seas after being inspired by Luffy. That being said, the Barto Club doesn’t have a proper navigator, making sailing hard for them. When times get tough, they rely on the useless advice given by Gambia’s grandmother.
While they may seem foolish, they are at the very least formidable. Even without a navigator and hailing from East Blue, which is said to be the weakest among the four seas, they managed to reach the New World. Bartolomeo, being the captain, is the strongest among them. Having consumed the Barrier-Barrier Fruit, which is arguably one of the strongest Devil Fruits, Bartolomeo can create almost indestructible barriers, making him an almost impenetrable fortress.
Happosui Army (Sai’s crew)
The third ship is Sai’s Happosui Army. It is a martial arts-based pirate crew led by Don Sai, a descendant of the legendary Chinjao family. The crew hails from the Kano Country and specializes in Hasshoken, a martial art that allows its users to generate powerful shockwaves through physical strikes. The crew is said to be a thousand men strong.
Sai himself is a formidable warrior, having inherited his grandfather Don Chinjao’s immense strength and mastery of Hasshoken. After defeating his grandfather in combat, Sai took over as the 13th leader of the Happosui Army. However, the Happosui Army is more than just Sai. After ultimately agreeing to marry her, Baby 5 defected from the Donquixote Pirates to the Happosui Army. Then, there is also Sai’s first mate, Boo, who also partook in the Corrida Colosseum.
Ideo Pirates (Ideo’s crew)
The Ideo Pirates are the Straw Hat Grand Fleet’s fourth ship. It’s a small but powerful crew composed of four Corrida Colosseum participants. At the helm of the group is Ideo, who serves as the group’s captain. He hails from the Longarm Tribe and is a martial artist with explosive punches.
The other members of the crew are Blue Gilly, Jeet, and Abdullah. Blue Gilly is another martial artist from the Longleg Tribe. Unlike Ideo, Blue Gilly specializes in kicks. His kicks are said to be like unpredictable steel whips. The other two, Jeet and Abdullah, are partners in crime who fight in tandem. As one distracts an opponent, the other launches a sneak attack.
Tontatta Pirates (Leo’s crew)
Leo’s Tontatta Pirates make up the fleet’s fifth ship. They are a crew of 200 dwarves from the Tontatta Kingdom. Despite their small stature, the Tontatta Pirates are incredibly strong and fast, making them formidable opponents. They are also skilled in guerrilla warfare, using their size and speed to their advantage in battle. In addition, Leo possesses the Sew-Sew Fruit, which allows him to stitch and manipulate objects together, including living beings.
New Giant Warrior Pirates (Hajrudin’s crew)
Not to be confused with the legendary Giant Warrior Pirates, the New Giant Warrior Pirates is Hajrudin’s attempt to revive the Giant pirate crew’s glory. It is also the Grand Fleet’s sixth ship. The crew consists of five Giants, including Hajrudin. Even so, they are one of the strongest assets of the fleet.
Before joining the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, Hajrudin worked as a mercenary under Buggy’s Delivery. Needless to say, he quit being an S-class pirate mercenary after deciding to sail under the Straw Hat Pirates’ flag.
Yonta Maria Fleet (Orlumbus’ crew)
The Yonta Maria Fleet is the largest and most organized of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet’s pirate groups. It is also the Grand Fleet’s seventh ship. The Yonta Maria Fleet is led by Orlumbus, a former adventurer turned pirate. Orlumbus commands a massive fleet of ships, with thousands of crew members at his disposal. Despite his imposing presence and strict demeanor, Orlumbus is known for his adherence to discipline and order.
Orlumbus’s fleet is well-equipped and highly coordinated, capable of executing large-scale naval operations with precision. Regardless of the fleet members’ individual fighting ability, its sheer number and organizational skills make it a crucial military asset to the Straw Hat Grand Fleet.
