Baldur’s Gate 3Â is here, and there’s magic in the air. With all this romantic atmosphere, players will certainly want to know who they can romance in Baldur’s Gate 3, before disaster strikes.
Whether you’re here for adventuring, role-playing, or virtual love, there are plenty of options. Getting to know the different companions in your campsite will lead to their approval or disapproval, and eventually, possibly lead to some more intimate moments.
Whether you play as a custom character (Tav), a Dark Urge-driven adventurer, or one of the Origin characters, you can find something. And according to Larian, you’ll be able to romance anyone you want, regardless of your choice in race or gender.
So who exactly is every eligible companion for a sneaky lakeside rendezvous, or a tender night by the hearth? Let’s see all the candidates for romance in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Every romance option in Baldur’s Gate 3
Shadowheart
This high elf has a dark past and a hazy memory, and carries a secret objective she’s not willing to tell just anyone about. Shadowheart is helpful, when it’s helpful to her, and will frequently butt heads with the likes of Lae’zel.
For those who like someone with a shady origin, secret mission, and enjoy the embrace of the void, Shadowheart’s approval might be worth seeking.
Lae’zel
Considering you’re in trouble with some mindflayers, having a Githyanki warrior like Lae’zel might be worthwhile. She’s got a fierce devotion to her order, and a strong desire to becoming the favorite of the Githyanki queen’s eye.
That doesn’t mean there’s no room for you in the picture, however. While Lae’zel will, in our experience at least, accelerate the relationship pretty fast, maybe your adventures could uncover a softer side. And underneath, an even more dangerous side.
Gale
It’s hard not to love a confident, brash, snarky mage in way over his head, and Gale is their standard-bearer. He puts on a face, but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that’s a wall to keep out some of the anxieties around his past endeavors—and mistakes.
Does the idea of a disaster mage entice you? Do you believe in magic? Are you a BioWare fan looking for a potent mix of Alistair and Anders? Well, Gale might be the one for you.
Wyll
A folk hero can be intimidating for sure, and Wyll is no exception. When you meet this romance candidate in Baldur’s Gate 3, he literally swashbuckles his way into a big fight and starts tussling with goblins.
That said, Wyll is a package deal; he’s got some baggage that came with his heroic prowess, and he’ll need someone who can help him. Or, maybe, you want to help his baggage? It’s up to you. But Wyll certainly seems like an interesting character to get to know better.
Astarion
I really feel like this one’s self-explanatory. There are those among you who see the words “vampire elf twink” and immediately say “yes, I want to romance them.” Well, I present to you Astarion, the vampire elf twink.
But while his appeal is written plainly on his fangs, he’s more than just an appealing archetype. His quest for freedom, and dealing with his vampiric urges, seems like it could be great fodder for those looking for a romantic partner with some drama in their lives.
Karlach
Much like Astarion, I think the appeal of Karlach is self-evident. She is a tiefling barbarian with an infernal heart, who could break you if she chose to. The line has already formed to try and win Karlach’s heart or be crushed, and I think the Karlach pursuers are okay with either.
As shown in the launch date Panel From Hell, though, she’s got a soft side. Those who really liked Cassandra from Dragon Age: Inquisition will probably find a similar vibe here, and the infernal heart in her chest adds an extra layer of complication in a good way.
Halsin
I know you’re all just waiting for it. You want me to make a bear pun, right? Well, I won’t. Halsin is a druid from the grove you run into, pretty soon after your introductory mindflayer spaceship crash lands on the beach. He’s the focal point of an early plot beat, and players were so eager to spend even more time with him, it looks like he’s a full-on Companion now.
I’m curious to see how this expanded version of Halsin plays out, but a druid is always handy to have around. It’s nice to know his story won’t be put on paws for the rest of Baldur’s Gate 3. Wait, no-
Minthara
Another romanceable companion, Minthara was one of the few who had a full romance put in during Early Access. And let me tell you, you’re going to have to be evil to win over Minthara.
While she might be more for the cold-hearted crowd, Minthara represents an interesting dynamic in Baldur’s Gate 3 and its romances. In the Early Access, she’d leave after your night together, on a good or bad note. But those wishing to delve deeper into the Absolute, and the mysteries that await therein, she might be a guide that leads you there. Or if you just want a strong, powerful Drow paladin girlfriend with a bit of a violent streak, that works too.
