Exciting ’90s shmup coming to consoles
M2 continues on its quest to re-release a bevy of awesome Cave shmups on modern platforms. The publisher recently dropped a new trailer for its next planned released, ESP Ra.De. Psi, coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan this holiday season.
Originally released in arcades back in 1998, ESP Ra.De. (“esp raid”) sees three youngsters, each bestowed with amazing powers, take to the skies of 2018 Tokyo in an effort to save the city from psychic Miss Garra and her powerful battalion. Featuring all of the high-speed, high-intensity, colourful action one expects from Cave titles, ESP Ra.De. still holds up wonderfully today, some 20 years from its original release.
The new console ports – as ESP Ra.De. Psi – will feature overhauled visuals, new modes, and features such as re-recorded voiceover work. For purists, the original release will also be included in all of its retro glory. There is unfortunately no date for an official western release as of yet, though the Japanese release will be available in both physical and digital form.
ESP Ra.De Psi launches in Japan December 19 on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
