Anyone remember Populous? Theme Park? Wing Commander? Road Rash? Of course you do! These were some of Electronic Arts’ strongest franchises in the late 80s and early 90s.
While we haven’t heard too much about them lately, at least they’re on the minds of EA’s lawyers. The publisher has just recently filed new trademarks for all four titles. Which could mean nothing, of course. But one could dream of things like remakes or even re-releases.
Word had it a new Road Rash was in the works, and then canned; Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach was pretty sure his music would be featured in the game, too. As for the Bullfrog-developed titles Populous and Theme Park, the trademark discoveries are timely. Speaking with Kikizio recently, EA Bright Light studio boss Harvey Elliot recently talked about interesting and possibility of renewing old Bullfrog IP. He even specifically calls out Populous and Theme Park.
Trademarks were dug up over at superannuation, who sorts through that stuff so we don’t have to. It’s so boring.
