Quantic Dream co-founder David Cage came out on stage at Sony’s E3 2012 press briefing to introduce his studio’s next project, Beyond: Two Souls. Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Page (Hard Candy, Inception) stars as heroine Jodie Holmes, a young woman gifted with supernatural powers that come from a psychic link to a force she calls Aiden.

Cage showed a slow-paced four-and-a-half-minute cutscene followed by a minute-long trailer in which sh*t blowed up real good, and you can watch them both above. The footage led us all to wonder just what kind of game Beyond: Two Souls is, exactly. Cage explained that you will play as Jodie at different points in her life, calling a “portrait of [her] life through 15 years.” Sony says you will “experience the most striking moments of Jodie’s life as your actions and decisions determine her fate.”

When asked by GameTrailers’ Geoff Keighley to compare it to Heavy Rain, Cage described Beyond as a “more action-driven experience” that offers “much more direct control” and “much more spectacular action” than the 2010 thriller. So there’s some good news for you folks worried about another QTE-fest.

Beyond: Two Souls is currently set for release in February 2013, exclusively for PlayStation 3. Check out 14 screenshots below.
