E3 09: Asphalt 4 Elite Racing brings racing to DSiWare

Recommended Videos

I don’t have a DSi, so I’m not exactly the person to go to when it comes to really describing the quality of DSi games. However, I’m not going to let that be something that’s going to stop me from bringing early judgment about DSi games. For example, I’ve had a chance to check out Asphalt 4 Elite Racing. It’s made by Gameloft, and yes, I know I’ve talked a lot about Gameloft’s games, but this racer should get your attention for a couple of reasons.

First, the option of snapping pictures using the DSi cameras and placing the pictures on billboards and garages is a pretty neat thing. Sure, it’s not the biggest feature, but it’s neat all the same. And considering the game is a DSi ware, and in full 3D, I’m pretty impressed with what Gameloft has done.

Finally, as far as gameplay goes, it’s a fairly standard racer. You pick a car, you do laps, you use up nitro, you drift to get it back, wash, rinse, and repeat. Drifting is a little touchy, but nothing you can’t adjust to, and the option of using the touch screen to control the car is a nice, if sure to be ignored, feature. It seems a little pricy at 800 points, and it’s rather generic aesthetic is pretty boring. It’ll come out later this summer.
