Following up on an announcement made earlier this year, indie dev Edmund McMillan, best known for smash hits Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, has revealed that development is officially underway on long-dormant title Mewgenics.

The news came via a tweet posted at the weekend, with McMillan revealing a development team comprised of himself, coder Tyler Glaiel and background artist Krystal Fleming. Ridiculon, who provided the score for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, return to offer up what will no doubt be another great soundtrack.

Mewgenics was first announced by Team Meat back in 2012, but was shelved after the partnership between McMillan and partner Tommy Refenes dissolved. The project was then assumed abandoned until McMillan’s reveal in January. Now that development has officially begun, it will still be quite some time before the Frankensteined moggies see the light of day.

Mewgenics is currently in development for undisclosed platforms. You can check out some work-in-progress gifs over on Tyler Glaiel’s twitter.
