Destiny 2 to increase drop rates for Exotic Class items

It'll be easier to hunt down that elusive god roll.

Bungie has taken note of those in the Destiny 2 community who are worried about the low drop rates for Exotic Class items. While the studio isn’t rolling back the fix that ended double rewards from the Dual Destiny mission, Bungie will make the coveted Prismatic Exotics easier to farm in The Pale Heart.

Exotic Class items are a new addition alongside The Final Shape expansion, serving as a unique build option for the Prismatic Subclass. When earned, each Exotic Class item can roll with two random Exotic Traits from other Exotic armor. While players saw the value in Exotic Class items, obtaining desired rolls proved an issue. The pool of possible results is so large, and there’s no way to focus specific rolls, leaving players to fate. Thankfully, players won’t have to fight the numbers come August.

How is Bungie changing Exotic Class item drops?

In the July 25 This Week in Destiny communication, Bungie outlined that Exotic Class items would become more plentiful when looting Overthrow chests within The Pale Heart. There was already some bad luck protection, as drop rates currently increase as players open chests within The Pale Heart that don’t reward an Exotic Class item. Now, those rates will also increase when opening Overthrow chests that don’t contain an Exotic Class item.

The Exotics already have a chance to appear when opening any chest in the region, but starting in early August, that will become less likely to occur. Bungie wants to encourage players to farm the reward through Overthrow rather than the generic chests scattered around The Pale Heart, saying, “Reducing chances from unrelated Pale Heart chests in freeroam to encourage Overthrow participation.” That said, as players build better and better chances to open a chest that contains an Exotic Class item, that increased acquisition rate will persist in The Pale Heart’s Lost Sectors or Co-Op missions.

On top of the way drop rates are changing for Overthrow on The Pale Heart, Bungie is also allowing a second Exotic Class item to be earnable per week per character. This comes in the form of a new weekly challenge that will be implemented at the same time as the drop rate changes. Of course, Bungie noted that it would be following the reception of these changes after they go live. The studio acknowledged that players have asked for other opportunities to earn these Exotics outside of The Pale Heart, but Bungie believes the upcoming August changes will resolve the issue.
