On Thursday, I got a weird text from Hamza. It said, “You’ve gotten a package in the mail”. Now, unlike most of the Dtoid SF office staff, I don’t live in Casa de Destructoid, so I was a little wary of what could be inside. So random! Thinking about the potential risks, I texted Hamza to open it. Five minutes later, I get told this: “It’s an iPod Touch. And erasers.” Uhhhhhhhhh.
Look, we get sent all sorts of swag in hype for games. I once got soap-on-a-rope. Another time I got a cupcake. But we rarely get something of this caliber. What did it all mean? Well, there’s more than just an iPod Touch. As you can see by the pictures below, the iPod Touch came in a box stickered with Scoggins Erasers and branded boldly “TOP SECRET”. Like a harem of pink rubber lovers, the iPod was surrounded by Pink Pearl erasers, and stuck to the back of the iPod was a sticker warning that the device was property of “The Department of Puzzle Research”. Also, “If found, DO NOT SELL TO GIZMODO”. How cheeky.
Turning the iPod on, we discover some of the art for what we presume is a game about Scoggins. We’ve got some creepy looking gnomes being creepy to some campers. There is a video too, called Hidden People, that looks to have something to do with the narrative. It is clear that whatever this is, it’s going to be a little on the nervy side. Now, there was also a message attached, and it said “Mr. PerLee, Something’s gone wrong in Scoggins, MN. Check your calendar”. Switching apps, we found a scheduled appointment for a local hotel sometime next week. We’ll have to wait until then to get to the bottom of this mystery.
