Starting at the fourth world, Sunbaked Desert, Super Mario Bros. Wonder begins piling on the difficulty. It relies on the concept of bigger stages with multiple doors leading to other parts of the stage, and one stage that has been tripping up players is Color-Switch Dungeon.
In Color-Switch Dungeon, the name is taken very seriously; there are many obstacles that can only be overcome with clever use of the color switches that swap old paths for new ones that can be used to proceed. In order to collect all the 10-Flower Coins and Wonder Seeds, you’ll need to have a mastery of the various concepts and strategies that have helped you get this far in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Color-Switch Dungeon — First 10-Flower Coin
You won’t encounter this first 10-Flower Coin until you’ve overcome several of the stage’s obstacles. As soon as you’ve used the vertical conveyor belt to propel yourself to the higher platforms, you’ll see it just ahead. It’s just underneath a color-switch, but you can’t access it through normal means. In order to nab this 10-Flower Coin, hit the color-switch so that it’s ‘ON’ and drop down to the left. The bottom conveyor belt should pull you all the way to the first 10-Flower Coin.
Color-Switch Dungeon — Second 10-Flower Coin
The second 10-Flower Coin can be found shortly after you’ve collected the first Wonder Seed. After finding the second checkpoint of the level, ride the vertical conveyor belt up and move to the right. You’ll eventually come across a large gap with vertical conveyor belts on both sides. Ensure they are leading down, then ride the leftmost belt down until you see this coin. It may take some precision to jump and grab it at the right time, but you know what they say you should do when at first you don’t succeed.
Color-Switch Dungeon — Third 10-Flower Coin
After you’ve collected the second 10-Flower Coin, hit the nearby color-switch block to flip the vertical belt you used to grab that coin and ride it up. You should be back at the large gap with a horizontal belt leading further into the stage, but hold on! Travel a bit to the left (towards where you came into this part of the stage from) and you’ll find a warp-pipe delivering pots of water.
Grab one and continue to the right. Continue moving (while holding the pot, grabbing it again if it falls out of your hands) and use the pot on a shriveled flower bud near the end of this section. It should blossom, and if you touch it, the third and final 10-Flower Coin will spawn (and fall) down just ahead of you. You’ll have to drop down to the bottom of the stage to claim it for yourself, however.
Color-Switch Dungeon — Wonder Flower & Wonder Seed
In the second part of the stage, where everything is once again silhouetted, move past the first color-switch blockade and you’ll see the Wonder Flower hanging just above. To grab it, move beneath the rightmost platform and hit the third block from the left. It’s a hidden color-switch, and it’ll activate the blocks leading to the Wonder Flower. Jump up to the top level of blocks now, and hold down the Y button to sprint across the blocks and grab the Flower. There’s no need to jump from block to block.
The Wonder Seed can be a bit tricky to nab, but it’s more than do-able if you know what you’re doing. As soon as you’ve grabbed the Wonder Flower, you’ll have to fend off a shadow clone of your character. If you let them touch you at any point, you’ll lose a power-up, so be sure to avoid them at all costs! It helps to remember that the clone isn’t moving independently of you — they’re moving along your path, so as long as you can avoid retracing your footsteps, you should be OK. Avoid the clone, move past the various obstacles, and you’ll eventually come across the Wonder Seed.
