First introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops, Theater Mode allowed players to record clips, piece them together, and then upload them directly from the menus. In future iterations, the feature also made it possible to watch back Zombies and Blackout matches and create clips. For the first time in a few years, it appears that the beloved feature could be making a return.
Call of Duty leaker Bob claims that Theater Mode will return in Black Ops 6. Theater mode works similar to the spectator mode used in Call of Duty League matches. Players can save gameplay, take screenshots, fast-forward, pause, and rewind videos. The feature will make it possible to rewind a match from any perspective on the map, allowing users to take notes and learn where they made mistakes.
In addition, the feature will be useful for the community in weeding out cheaters. Streamers already have the capability of rewinding their stream to determine if an enemy cheated or not. Theater Mode should make it easier for every player to do the same. Of course, this also comes with risks, as false accusations will inevitably be made and posted online. Treyarch is going to have its hands full sifting through so many videos, but this feature should have a positive impact and result in plenty of fun highlight reels going viral.
We will learn more about the upcoming series installment during the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct on June 9 at 1 p.m. ET.
