Six videogame music arrangers make rockin’ covers of original chiptunes

If you are a big chiptune nut, you’ve probably heard me make mention of “Chiptunes = WIN,” a chip appreciation group that has released three free collections of original chiptune music over the past year: the original Chiptunes = WIN, ChipWIN Expansion Pack, and chipWINter. Many artists were assembled to make these projects a reality, and fearless ChipWIN leader Brandon Hood couldn’t be more pleased with the reception. I mean, it’s literally hours of awesome bleeps and bloops. Who wouldn’t be excited by this stuff?
The next little treat in the pipeline is Chiptunes = WTFLOL, a six-track EP set to be released after the listening party on 8bitX‘s “8 Bit Power Hour,” starting right now at 8:00 PM EST which is now over. In a wild twist, this album does not feature any chiptunes. Rather, six popular videogame music arrangers have selected six tracks from the past three ChipWIN releases to cover in their own signature styles.
The arrangers include Final Fantasy cover band The World Is Square, The OneUps‘ Tim Yarbrough, Jameson Sutton, VikingGuitar, Metroid Metal‘s Stemage, and post-rock Zelda album performer Cory Johnson. Nice spread there, no? Go cop it at the link below!
