Nintendo of America has released a neat little infographic on how the 3DS has evolved, software wise, from its launch on March 27, 2011. I have quite a bit of history with the little thing, as I was there at E3 when it was announced, and I still remember the day I got my 3DS — June 19th — just for Ocarina of Time 3D. My excitement soon subsided, as for many months I was upset that I had little to play on it with hardly anything on the horizon.

Slowly but surely though, the eShop started to roll out in full force, and the stable of retail games really crept up on me. Recently, with games like Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and Fire Emblem: Awakening, it’s really hard to imagine the portable losing steam anytime soon.

Sure, a lot of the heavy hitters for the system are in the first party arena, but Nintendo really pulled out all the tops and started cranking out those quality new IPs, like Pushmo, Sakura Samurai, and a whole lot more.

Truly, if you factor in the eShop, the 3DS is probably my favorite portable to date, even surpassing the monster library of the DS. That’s quite a feat!
