PS4 users get it first
Last year, Activision announced that customers who pre-ordered Call of Duty: Black Ops III would be able to access the game’s multiplayer beta, with PlayStation 4 users receiving first access. This trend is set to continue this year, as Activision has announced on the PlayStation Blog that beta access for the up-and-coming instalment in the Call of Duty franchise, Infinite Warfare, will be both a pre-order bonus and a timed exclusive for PlayStation 4 users.
There is currently no confirmation as to how long the beta period will last, only that it will run for at least three days, according to the official beta registration site. PlayStation 4 users will be able to access it from October 14, with an Xbox One beta occurring at a later date. Activision has also confirmed that there will be no beta access for PC users.
In a way, this kind of feels like a missed opportunity. After all, Activision could have used free multiplayer beta access as a means to advertise their game, and to potentially placate Call of Duty fans who are dissatisfied with the route the franchise is taking. Although if you consider the popularity of the franchise in question, it’s very likely that the “Infinite” in “Infinite Warfare” is actually a reference to the game’s sales predictions.
Activision also unveiled a new multiplayer trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which you can view below:
