Racking up quite a phone bill
Call of Duty: Black Ops III launched November 6. That means that is was for sale for less than two months in 2015. Despite this, Black Ops III was the best-selling video game of 2015 according to NPD data. While NPD data only accounts for physical releases in the states, Call of Duty general manager Rob Kostich said the latest release was the best-selling globally by a “wide-margin in both units and dollars.”
The continued success of the franchise, which didn’t really dip or fatigue after a particularly tepid Call of Duty: Ghosts before getting super futuristic with Advanced Warfare and 12th main entry in the series, Black Ops III, has lead to the series selling over 250 million copies to date.
“This also marks the seventh year in a row that Call of Duty has been the #1 selling franchise in North America, according to NPD,” Kostich said. “In fact, Call of Duty has surpassed 250 million units sold life-to-date worldwide.”
The series had sold 175 million copies in November 2014.
