Haldo! I’m Zalno! You might know me!

If this is your first time reading the C-Blog recaps, this is where we recap all the blogs the Destructoid community wrote during that week. We love to celebrate everything the community does. Heck, a good chunk of the main writers were once just bloggers like Lord Spencer and I! Of course, it’s not limited to just blogging. We also have artists, musicians, poets, and other wonderfully creative people in our community.

Speaking of creativity, Toadette (or should I say Peachette?) has opened the floodgates.  That new power up Nintendo revealed for New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe raised a lot of questions among fans. Question like, “Is this how Princess Peach was born?” and “Can all toads turn into humans with these crowns?” and “What would happen if other Mario characters wore this crown?” and so on. None of which Nintendo will ever answer. Of course, it didn’t take long for one intrepid fan to imagine what would happen if Bowser wore this magic crown. Enter Bowsette.

For many people, this was a very appealing character in concept. This is a dude who tried so hard to win over Peach, only for her to dash both his and Mario’s hopes. And in response to that, he decided to find his own happiness by embracing his feminine side and being with the man we all know he really wants. It’s a rather empowering idea. At least, that’s what I and many people in my circle of friends thought. For everyone else, it just turned into sexually objectifying various Mario characters.

This is a trend that’s been around long before Nintendo accidentally created meme material. It’s known as Moe Anthropomorpism, or Gijinka for short. You know how cartoons and furries give animals more human qualities via anthropomoprhism? This is the logical endpoint. Now they’re just humans with a couple extra bits hanging off them. I’ve always found it interesting to see how decidedly non-human characters would look if they were given human character designs. This doesn’t apply to just creatures, either. Artists have done this for inanimate objects, too. Remember the Hyperdimension Neptunia series? You know, that game about sentient game consoles and stuff? That’s pretty much gijinka.

Of course, because it’s the Internet, a lot of this kind of art just devolves into sex appeal and porn. That tends to be referred as “moe” more than the other stuff. Porn aside, some of the gijinka designs look rather neat!

Okay, enough rambling from me. Here’s what some of you guys wrote this past week!

* – Chris Hovermale takes a long, hard look at gacha-style games after recent lootbox shenanigans in “AAA” games over the past year.

M – Blanchimont goes on a bit of a rant about the new update to Closers. Again, no screenshots of the game to give us a clearer idea of what the game is like.

A – Ever wanted to try World of Warcraft‘s dungeon raids but don’t know where to start? Don’t worry! Senperfect has a pretty good guide to help you get started!

E – Adzuken‘s Band of Bloggers entry is about the protagonists of Kiki Kaikai, known as Pocky & Rocky in the west.

E – Did you know that the actual Charlton Heston is a blogger on DTOID? It’s true! He’s still totally kicking around here and most assuredly not dead. And he’s here to talk about his favorite leading ladies from Rainbow Six: Siege.

T – Shoggoth2588 shares his reactions to the latest Nintendo Direct. Overall, he seems quite happy with the reveals.

R – Kerrik52 is back with another Travellers in Playtime. This week, he gives us a look at one of the more unusual entries in the Kingdom Hearts series; Re:Chain of Memories.

T – Distance looks like a really cool racing game that completely went under my radar! According to taciturasa, it has an incredibly intense, unnerving sequence during the story mode. Guess I’m gonna have to check it out now!

L – To answer Sapato64’s question, yes. He is very likely are one of, if not the only person on DTOID who’s hyped about Nintendo Switch Online.

This past week had a total of nine blogs from you guys. That may not sound like a lot compared to the previous week’s 19, but it’s still a lot of work to write. If you’re interested in helping us out, shoot us a message in the comments below!

Next week’s recap will cover the days from 9/23 to 9/30. Keep on reading and writing these blogs, everyone!

And remember; don’t just dream it. Be it.
