While Dr. Kawashima’s Nintendo DS Brain Training titles set out to fix our heads, you’d have to wonder if something is wrong with his. It seems that he hasn’t bothered to take any of the 22 million dollars in royalties that he’s earned for himself.

This AFP article says that Kawashima’s royalties have been poured into a 300 million yen laboratory at Tohoku University’s Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer, where he works. Another lab costing 400 million yen is also on the way.

“Not a single yen has gone in my pocket,” said the scientist. “Everyone in my family is mad at me but I tell them that if they want money, go out and earn it.”

Our concerns for his head were heightened when he said that he “wouldn’t know what to do” at a tropical island home funded by his royalties. “If I had such time to spare, I want to do my research,” he says.

This does make him seem like a bit of a good guy, but he has been known to crack down on his son’s gaming habits, once even snapping a game disc in half! The four offspring of this game maker have to suffer through a no-game weekday rule, and are limited to only an hour on weekends.

Nintendo, are you hearing this?
