Left on the church steps, crying in the rain. How could they?

It looks like Borderlands is going through a pretty rough time at the moment. Borderlands 2 writer Anthony Burch left Gearbox back in January, and Pre-Sequel developer 2K Australia closed its doors for good last week. I bet ol’ 2K was anxious enough about the future of its flagship series before the bloody creator of the Borderlands series left.

In a single tweet, Matthew Armstrong announced that he is moving on from the studio to look for “adventure”, whatever that means. As VG247 points out, it appears Gearbox wouldn’t be too far into the development of anything new at the moment. Maybe Gearbox has finally started on a fresh project and as such it is just the right time to leave.

Either way, it’s interesting to see just how much is changing at Gearbox and at 2K Games. I’m not entirely sure if we should be worried yet, maybe we should just have a gentle chat with them over a cup of tea. People move between projects all the time, but on the other hand Armstrong announced he was leaving the same day 2K Australia shut down. I also really want to know what Armstrong meant by “things changed”, but I suspect we won’t find out for a long time. Damn it!
