Blizzard legend and VP Chris Metzen retires from company

To spend time with family

Recommended Videos

Chris Metzen, who started work at Blizzard in 1995 on the SNES version of Justice League Task Force (I remember renting this!), has retired.

For the last 20 years or so his name and visage has been synonymous with some of the company’s biggest releases, and odds are you’ve seen him at a major conference or reveal video of some sort. In addition to providing art and voiceovers he also has published multiple novels and worked as the Senior Vice President of the company.

The reason for his retirement? As he jokingly puts it, not to “start up new projects or go to some other company” — he simply wants to spend time with his family. Chris is retiring at the ripe age of 42, and I wish him the best. He’s worked on some amazing projects over the course of his career basically nonstop and deserves a break.
