Blacksite: Area 51: Are you going to tell her mommy is dead?

By all accounts, Blacksite: Area 51 is a generic shooter. It features a generic aliens-attack-earth plot line, you’re tasked with fighting them off with generic weaponry, and we’d be surprised if you didn’t encounter generic stereotypes of military personnel, women, aliens, minorities, minotaurs, slices of bread, and fruit flies.

With all of that overarching mediocrity already in place, how did they manage to craft such an evocative ad for the thing? Creepy little girls have been done to death, but if this ad is any indication, gaming severely needs more weepy, dirty little female urchins to convey atmosphere. Up until the moment where that jerkass alien decides to go all Roman Polanski on the kid, you’d have to have a heart of stone to not want to pick her up, hand her some ice cream and tell her you’ll help her find her mommy.

Then again, the fact that her mommy is probably a pile of dust sort of paints a dark future for the melancholy lass, doesn’t it? I guess it would just be easier for everyone if you offed her before she had to realize the cruel realities of the world she now exists in. It’s the humane thing to do, and you’d be a monster to let her grow up orphaned, alone, and terrified in a world where alien pederasts haunt her at every turn.

Blacksite: Area 51: Because justifying infanticide is just SO easy!
