But not enough to sate Bowser’s Fury
After weeks of Nintendo’s dominance, PlayStation finally had reason to celebrate. A supply restock – in addition to several store discounts – saw some of Sony’s big-hitters shoot back up the UK Charts.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, comic-book adventure Spider-Man: Miles Morales saw a 172% rise in sales, climbing from number nine to number two in the Top Ten. Naughty Dog’s misery-fest The Last of Us Part II was discounted at a variety of outlets, which saw the award-winning title skyrocket up the charts to make a grand re-entry at number three. FromSoftware’s PS5 remake Demon’s Souls also returned to the Top 40 at number 21.
None of the above releases, however, were successful in usurping Nintendo’s Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which enjoyed a third week at number one despite seeing a 38% drop in sales. On the subject of Switch releases, Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Minecraft all m/animal-crossing-new-horizons-ichiban-kuji-lets-you-experience-island-life/anaged to retain Top Ten positions, while Atlus’ musou-lite Persona 5 Strikers enjoyed moderate success, debuting at number five.
There are very few major releases scheduled to hit the market in the foreseeable future. Add to this continued stock issues brought about by Brexit, as well as Britain’s ongoing lockdown woes, and it seems that the nation’s video games charts will continue spinning the platters that matter from last year, or even before. Let’s go, Crash Bandicoot 4 for Switch.
