Game Informer is rocking some new character renders for Valve’s exciting upcoming sequel, Portal 2. As well as some cool conceptual images for Chell, a render of the game’s co-op bots has also been revealed. In short, the bots look thoroughly badass.
“We went through a phase of putting stuff up and deciding what the direction was. The co-op bots, at the very beginning our concepts had a very Westworld feel,” says concept artist Matt Charlesworth. “We wanted them to look human, but feel robotic. They eventually developed into being these far more graphic, very poor looking robots. We took turrets and the personality spheres and integrated them into the designs. There’s so much personality in Portal that we thought we could almost tell a story with their design and get more use out of the art than we already had.”
I want to play co-op just to hang out with these little guys. I hadn’t been paying too much attention to any two-player chicanery until I found out that you get a pair of badass robots for your trouble. Well done Valve, you have single-handedly justified co-op in games. Just add robots, and everything works!
