No, not the 2017 Battlefront II

Of April’s Games with Gold lineup, there’s a rogue one — a solo standout that kind of rises above the rest. It also sticks out because it’s the only true old-timer of the bunch, the one you have to go back a couple console generations to find.

The most-acclaimed game Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get in April is 2005’s Star Wars: Battlefront II, Pandemic’s shooter from the original Xbox. It’s playable on Xbox One through the magic of backward compatibility, and available to download for free from April 1 through April 15. It’s also the right time of year for this, as the Star Wars Celebration fan event will take place in Chicago the weekend of April 11. That’s where we’ll learn more about Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game.

The rest of April’s Games with Gold are more forgettable. On the Xbox One side, Souls-like action RPG The Technomancer is free for the entirety of April. Open-world adventure Outcast — Second World joins the party from April 16 through May 15. Rounding out the month, Battlefront II gets relieved of its duties when Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 takes over the backward compatibility assignment for the latter half of April.
