April O’Neil & the unholy CatDog join Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

PC port announced for superstar throwdown

Breaking: It has been one hell of a busy week for TNNT‘s favorite news reporter April O’Neil. In 24 hours, the Channel 6 superstar has been revealed as a playable character in not one, but two video game smackdowns — originally in Dotemu’s TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, and now in GameMill’s Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl!

Also newly announced for the roster is the hugely unnerving CatDog, the twin-headed pet who starred in the late ’90s animated series of the same name. If developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs have their wits about them, they’ll make CatDog a stance character, with different moves dependent on who is facing forward… I might be overthinking this.

If you’re hearing about this for the first time, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a Super Smash Bros.-style fighter featuring a roster packed-out with famous characters pulled from the catalogue of Nickelodeon entertainment. April O’Neil joins a roster that already includes Rugrats‘ Reptar, Hey Arnold‘s Helga, Ren & Stimpy‘s Powdered Toast Man, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Invader Zim, among many others.

It’s a fascinating and fun idea, with perhaps one of the most bizarre rosters in fighting game history. One of the concept’s few downers revolves around sound, however, as it seems that the characters will not be voiced by their original VAs, or perhaps voiced at all, which will very likely harm the charm and charisma of the fight. Then again, given the chaotic nature of the fights, constant callouts might make for a pretty annoying dirge.

Either way, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is definitely worth watching out for, and I’m excited to see who else gets announced for its colorful roster of Millennial favorites. The bell sounds this fall on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch platforms. I’m a Helga main.
