Apex Legends Shockwave Season 22 is live now, and it brings a new map among other additions to the game. Among those new features is the introduction of Akimbo weapons mode. This refers to the dual wielding of weapons in Apex Legends, where you have certain weapons in both of your hands to deal damage.
Even though akimbo weapons are fun to use in Apex Legends, there are some things to keep in mind about using two P2020s or two Mozambique together. There are certain buffs and nerfs attached to these combinations. For starters, weapons in akimbo mode turn into automatic weapons, meaning you can just hold onto that trigger and the weapon would continue to fire.
There are no optics available when weapons are in akimbo mode, so you only have the option to hipfire these weapons. To make up for this, Apex Legends players who wish to re-enable optics can holster the second weapon by using the select fire toggle input.
Respawn has added an increased rate of fire and has doubled the magazine size for akimbo weapons. However, there will be a longer reload time (since you have to reload two weapons at the same time). Given that akimbo operates in hipfire mode, looking down sights by aiming will slightly reduce the hipfire spread, so even if there is no optic in place, players shouldn’t forget to aim down sights for better accuracy.
So far, akimbo mode is available only for the P2020 pistol and Mozambique shotgun, making it possible to have two P2020s or two Mozambiques in battle. Akimbo weapons have added a whole new layer to how battles happen in Apex Legends, and while there are only two weapons so far that you can dual-wield, we will perhaps one day get to wield even two Wingman together.
