Battlefield 4 producer Daniel Matros has a lot to say about the game’s Spectator Mode, which was revealed last week during E3. Can you blame him? Inquiring minds must know everything.

“Spectator Mode will play a pivotal role in our support of the competitive gaming scene,” writes DICE, “and we also recognize that many players will use it to make great “Only in Battlefield” videos, analyze the game, learn how to become better players, and seeing [memorable] moments in great Battlefield 4 matches. We are continuing to develop Spectator Mode with all of these functions in mind.”

In this chat, he runs down a pre-alpha build featuring the different views: first-person, third-person, free cam, and tabletop with picture-in-picture. Watching other people play, particularly in a full 64-person match, should be mesmerizing.

What about would-be spectators playing Battlefield 4 on consoles? “We’ll see,” says Matros.
