Every once in a while, I remember that Nintendo Switch Online 1) exists and 2) that I’m subscribed to it.

Usually, that realization happens when I’m in the mood to play some random Super Nintendo game and I browse through the wacky list of featured fluff. This paid service has Super Metroid and Spanky’s Quest — but no EarthBound? Sure, whatever, Nintendo. You don’t need to woo me. I’m probably only going to play for a few minutes, anyway.

The other “Oh yeah, I’m paying for this” reminder pops up whenever Nintendo hosts one of its week-long game trials. I rarely have the energy to participate, but I’m always curious to see which games are selected. In this case, it’s Among Us — a pretty good pick.

Nintendo Switch Online’s week-long Among Us free trial starts this Wednesday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific. If you’re smooth-tongued and street smart enough to stand a chance in this social deception game, have at it — you can even pre-download it now while it’s on your mind. Among Us will also have a 30 percent discount on the eShop beginning July 21.

For those of you with platform-spanning friend groups, Among Us has cross-play. And I didn’t realize this before, but you can use a USB keyboard with Among Us on Switch, too.

No matter how big or small the stakes, I suck at lying and deception. These games just don’t fit me. Given their popularity across multiple mediums (people recently redeemed 15 million free copies of Among Us from the Epic Games Store!), I feel like the odd man out. Maybe one day they’ll click for me and I’ll have my full-on heel-turn moment.
