Amnesia: The Bunker Halloween update will let you ‘hone your skills’ in the Training Grounds

Sadly, you can’t learn how to hide better.

Amnesia The Bunker: the player's hands can be seen pulling the pin out of a grenade.

Spooky season is fast approaching, so naturally all the horror games are coming out to play. One of these is Amnesia: The Bunker – the latest Amnesia entry from Frictional Games – which will be getting a new mode this Halloween.

In a recent video uploaded to the developer’s YouTube channel, creative lead Fredrik Olsson gives us a taste of what’s to come in the next update.

In particular, he shows off what’s being called the “Training Grounds,” which appears as an option in the main menu. Essentially, this is a way to help you hone your Amnesia skills. This will be particularly interesting for those wanting to play on the harder difficulties.

If only you could take all that ammo with you

This new mode is basically a way of getting better at the game’s mechanics. Olsson shows us how you’ll be able to practice throwing grenades at exploding barrels, shooting guns, or overcoming obstacles (physical, as opposed to fear-induced).

This goes hand-in-hand with the new shell shocked mode that’s coming to Amnesia this month. The update will offer a new difficulty for those who feel like The Bunker could do with having the challenge cranked up a notch.

For instance: time will no longer pause when you enter the in-game menu. So no more catching your breath while you hold the action to gather your thoughts. That monster’s coming whether you’re busy in the inventory or not.

On top of that, the safety of the admin office will also be a thing of the past. The new “shell shocked” update will change the door from a solid metal to a wooden barricade. Essentially, this means nowhere will be safe from the horror that stalks the titular bunker.

While there isn’t an exact release date for the patch yet, Olsson says it should be coming out around the Halloween period, possibly a couple of days before. So look out for that.
