Enter the Thunderdome
With the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Season 2, players can now enjoy a plethora of new multiplayer maps. These new maps offer brand new experiences for classic six-versus-six modes like Team Deathmatch, while others enhance Ground War.
All new maps in Modern Warfare 2 Season 2, explained
In total, there are four new multiplayer maps in MW2 Season 2. Two of the maps are for the traditional 12-player multiplayer experience. This is where you will find the usual game modes like Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Search & Destroy, and Domination.
On the other hand, two more of the maps are for the Ground War experience. This massive large-scale battle experience involves dozens of players on each side of the battle, taking place across various locations from the Al Mazrah Warzone 2.0 battle royale mode.
Here’s what you need to know about all four of the new MW2 Season 2 maps.
Dome
Up first is Dome. This new multiplayer map isn’t exactly brand new to veteran Call of Duty players. Originating from Modern Warfare 3, it’s back with a shiny new lick of paint. The entire destination is centered around a massive dome structure.
The dome itself provides a sniper spot for long-range players to dominate. Meanwhile, the bulk of the small to medium map is held outdoors and in its bunkers. Here, players engage in short-range combat across exterior and destroyed areas in six-versus-six modes.
Valderas Museum
The other six-on-six map in MW2 Season 2 might be familiar to those who played the beta in 2022. Valderas Museum was originally part of the game in the beta, and the community largely loved it. Unfortunately, it was removed due to copyright issues.
Thankfully, it is now back for good. Museum is a medium to large map with plenty of level variation. Players can battle in the middle of the outdoor areas or within the titular museum itself. It provides a fair amount of gameplay and competitive potential.
Al Malik International Airport
The first of the Ground War maps is Al Malik International Airport. This map comes from the Warzone 2.0 battle royale map, Al Mazrah. If you’ve played that game mode before, you’ll likely know this map well.
The airport includes lots of buildings and terminals to fight across. Restricted to this part only, players have plenty of long-range and close-range engagements. The airport map is only available in the Ground War modes.
Zaya Observatory
Finally, there is Zaya Observatory. This takes the central location from the Al Mazrah battle royale map and converts it into a Ground War location. Players can engage in massive battles across the observatory that is atop a mountain range.
There are lots of cliffs, high points, and complex terrain to conquer here. Zaya Observatory offers a heavy emphasis on mid-range combat in the exterior mountains around the observatory.
