Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk introduces some new systems and minigames to keep longtime fans on their toes. One of these is the Flying Time Trial, which you’ll need to complete to face off against the Elite Four member Amarys. That said, there’s a bit more to this minigame than meets the eye.
After you triumph over Amarys, head back to the receptionist and you’ll see some yellow text about taking on the Flying Time Trials again. And if you investigate the matter further, you’ll see that there are three courses available in the Flying Time Trial: Easy, Normal, and Hard. In short, the rewards for completing these are pretty good, so it’s worth going through each course once. Beyond that, however, you may see diminishing returns for your efforts.
How do you unlock all the Flying Time Trial courses in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk?
Despite clearing the Easy course as part of the story, you’ll notice that you can only select Easy when you talk to the receptionist. You might expect to jump into at least Normal right away, but that’s not the case here. To unlock the Normal course, you must take on the Easy course again and complete it.
Following this logic, you’ll unlock the Hard course after you complete the Normal course. You won’t unlock anything after Hard before finishing the main story quest, so you don’t have to push any harder than that.
What do you get for completing each Flying Time Trial course in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk?
You’ll earn BP finishing each Flying Time Trial course. You’d typically need to grind BP from Blueberry Quests (BBQs) to challenge Gym Leaders, so getting points here is really nice. You’ll get the following for completing each course for the first time:
Easy: 50 BP
Normal: 100 BP
Hard: 200 BP
After that, it appears that breaking your previous records earn you some BP as well. Besting my own time earned me 30 BP on Hard, for example. Unless you want to specifically play this minigame again, I don’t think you should try to farm BP by repeating these courses. Even if you game your times just right, you can just complete normal BBQs and earn BP at a faster rate. Having said that, those initial clear bonuses are definitely worth the trouble.
The Super-Hard Flying Time Trial course reward
In addition to the above, there is one extra course you can unlock, but only by finishing The Indigo Disk. After the credits roll, check out some of the new points of interest in the Blueberry Academy, and you’ll quickly find you’ve unlocked the new Super-Hard Flying Time Trial course.
That said, don’t get too excited, because this follows the same patterns as the above courses. Clearing the Super-Hard course for your first time grants you 500 BP, and breaking the record on subsequent runs will give you 50 BP. Again, I hesitate to recommend farming this course just because of how long it takes to complete. But that first clear is easily worth the effort at least, so make sure to get that under your belt.
Enjoy your first taste of flight with your Pokemon!
