There are nine EMF experiment locations in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but the final one won’t show until a couple of requirements are met. Completing the experiments nets you Rare Tech Parts, which are necessary for upgrades.
The EMF experiment locations won’t be available until you finish the main story mission, ‘Healing The World.’ Peter has gone to work with Harry at the Emily-May Foundation, and these experiments allow him to collect valuable data by doing snazzy science things. Naturally, that means completing puzzles, flying bee drones, and maybe punching a few people. Science!
Each of the first eight experiments rewards three Rare Tech Parts, 140 Tech Parts, and 700 XP on completion.
Central Park: Energy
A good one to start with is in Harlem, near the top-left corner of Central Park. This one is done as Pete instead of Spider-Man. The goal is to test an ultra-efficiency battery on a bicycle by taking a ride through the park. Grab a bike and use the X button to pedal and L2 to brake.
Things seem simple enough at first. Your job is to ride through 10 checkpoints and try not to crash into anyone. However, Pete does run into some trouble when the battery starts to fail. Use the R2 button to boost and jump over ramps until you make it back safely. But don’t worry; this isn’t your only chance to ride a bike in the game.
Central Park: Bee Drones
Once you’re finished with the last experiment, head south to find the next one on the border of Central Park and Upper West Side.
You must use a bee drone to shoo off digital predators and locate good nesting locations for the bees. It’s a simple experiment and should be over quickly.
Little Tokyo: Plant Science
The experiment for Little Tokyo: Plant Science is located in Chinatown. Head on over and get ready for some nail-biting puzzle action!
The goal of this experiment is to collect samples and use a gene splicer to try and create a new type of plant capable of feeding the people. Press the R3 (thumbstick) button to scan the area and search for nearby plants. There is a plant on the east side of the building and a second on the other side of the white fence. The third and final plant you need is attached to the south side of the building. Next, head back to the EMF terminal and run the gene splicer puzzle. This is my solution:
Finally, you need to turn on the water. Doing so causes multiple leaks in the pipes, however, which means you need to use your webbing (tap R1) to fix the awful plumbing. The first three leaks are easy enough to spot and plug up. You need to use your webs to move a cart and break a box for two leaks. The final leak is on the other side of the white fence. Once all leaks are plugged up, you’re done.
Queens Apiary: Bee Drones
Yes, the bees! Head to a rooftop in Little Odessa for this bee experiment. It’ll be hard not to pinpoint since the roof is covered in beehives. The job is to use a bee drone and develop its defense software by shooting at some digital beewolves.
It’s easy enough: Fly around the rooftop and shoot at the purple, glowing predators until you get a proximity warning. A real-life predator has arrived: A bird, which is attacking one of the beehives. Shoo it away with a harmless sonic laser.
Pete wants to follow it back home to find out where it came from. Chase after the bird and use the laser to move it off places it perches. When you get to the park, fire at it until it heads home. Once it’s in the cage, shoot the nearby wood plank to close it in.
Brooklyn Heights: Energy
This experiment is in Downtown Brooklyn, just north of the bridge. Your task is to deploy five flying wind turbines high into the air. Use your Web Wings to get to the correct altitude and press the square button to release each turbine. If you’re struggling with height, look for wind tunnels and updrafts to get you higher.
Things take a turn when one of the turbines gets attacked by a group of Talon drones. Take them out and then fight off the hunters who follow.
Prospect Park: Bee Drones
Head south from the last experiment to find the next EMF location in Downtown Brooklyn. The goal at Prospect Park is to fly some bee drones around to once again train their software to better target threats to the cute, fuzzy bees. But not everything is going to go as planned.
Use the bee drone to destroy some digital pests. Be sure to watch your battery meter, as your energy drains fast in this experiment. Once the pests are pestered, hunt down some good nest locations.
But wait, it’s a trap! The bee drone gets nabbed by some bad guys, and Peter must check out nearby garages to find a signal. Once he does, use the bee drone to blast open trapped bees and force the criminals out onto the street. Take them all out as Spider-Man, and this experiment is concluded.
Portside: Plant Science
Let’s dive over to Hell’s Kitchen for this next experiment, located in the northwestern section near the water.
The plants in the garden are looking a bit sickly, and Pete surmises that there’s something wrong with the water. Complete the atom-destroying puzzle on the water source nearby to discover that harmful pathogens are causing the issue.

Our goal now is to splice some pathogen-resistant genes into the plants. How? By going fishing, of course! Head to the dock and get some fish gene samples. Return to the EMF terminal to complete the gene-splicing puzzle. Here’s my solution:
Two Bridges: Plant Science
Two Bridges: Plant Science begins in the eastern section of the Financial District, so make your way over when ready. The EMF asks Pete for ideas on how to make a better plant, and he believes he knows of one: A cassava, located in a greenhouse in nearby Chinatown.
Sadly, some thieves broke into it and stole the needed plant. How typical. Follow the trail to locate the thieves on a rooftop. You can use stealth to take them all out or go in messy.
Once you return with the plant, use the terminal to complete the gene-splicing puzzle game. Here’s my solution:
How to complete the last EMF experiment puzzle – Spider-Man 2 locations
The final EMF experiment unlocks after you completed all the others and finished the main story of Spider-Man 2.
Spoiler warning: Do not read any further unless you have finished the game’s story.
The eighth and final EMF experiment is available after you switch back to Peter in the post-story free-roam mode. Peter gets a call from MJ about a package from Norman Osborn, which she left in the garage.
Go to Peter’s house and into the garage. On the table is a box with a piece of bark, a plant, and a thumb drive containing a heartfelt message from Harry. He gives Peter one last experiment to complete: Splice together the plant and the bark — representing Aunt May and Harry’s mother, respectively.
Here is my solution to the puzzle:
Rewards for completion
You earn 200 Tech Parts, 1,000 XP, and the ‘Foundational’ trophy for completing the Emily-May Foundation side story. Peter also gets a new suit called the Life Story Suit, which comes with three more styles for 15 Tech Parts and 1 City Token.
