You asked for it, (did you ask for it? I dunno), and now you’re getting it. As part of its upcoming 2022 catalogue reveal, Blu-ray purveyor Discotek Media announced that the original TV series The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog will be coming to Blu-ray in the United States in February — that’s 65 episodes of weakly colored, ’90s cartoon mayhem.

Watch the intro, an intro that could frankly be used for any fictional character ever, right here:

Premiering in 1993 during the original heights of Sonic Mania (the movement, not the game), The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog saw The Blue Blur and his pal Tails square off against the nefarious Dr. Robotnik and his android army. The show — ‘tuded to max fucking levels — also took the liberty of adding weird new lore that would eventually segue into the main video game series, such as Sonic’s bizarre love of chili dogs. The “Sonic Sez” safety tips segment is also the stuff of legend, having been memeified by savvy internet types decades after the show’s release.

Discotek Media has also released details on a stack of extra features, including the unreleased pilot, the Holiday Special, commentaries on two episodes, original bumpers and syndication commercials, rushes and concept art, and much more. The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Blu-ray will also come in packaging styled after the Sega Mega Drive release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which is a neat touch. While all 65 episodes of the cartoon have been fully remastered, the write-up seems to hint that the picture quality will be as good as it can get — but still isn’t quite pristine due to the quality of the source material.

“OI HATE THAT HEEEEDGEHOOOOOOOG!”

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Blu-ray launches in February 2022 in North America. A price was not announced. Oh, Discotek also announced Blu-rays for the original Lupin III anime, City Hunter, Angel Cop, Gunbuster, Kemono Friends, and much more. Check out the official Twitter feed for the full lineup.
