A Million Ways to Die in the West game has a million ways to wax nostalgic about retro games

Well, maybe not a million

Seth MacFarlane chooses to inject nearly every bit of media he touches with a rush of nostalgia from his childhood. I’m a little similar, but I’m nowhere near as rich. And I’m kind of on the fence about the upcoming movie A Million Ways to Die in the West, but this promotional game makes me laugh for all the right reasons.

It’s set up like an homage to The Oregon Trail, but it quickly devolves into a smorgasbord of retro goodness, with throwbacks to Frogger, Donkey Kong, and other recognizable greats. It’s an Adult Swim release, so I shouldn’t be surprised, but this is actually one licensed game I don’t feel like a corporate shill for playing. Plus, just look how cute it is. I’m going to give it the old college try, and if you can get past the subject (if you’re not a MacFarlane fan) you might want to as well.
