Nippon Ichi’s next game is about a witch and cavalry men

While some might think Japanese developers have lost touch and are conforming to Western styles (with good reason), developers like Nippon Ichi Software have consistently delivered with the likes of Disgaea, Cladun, and the Atelier series. Their newly announced game, The Witch and the Hundred Cavalry Men for PS3, looks to keep in line with that tradition.

The Witch and the Hundred Cavalry Men is a dark fantasy open-world Action RPG starring, you guessed it, a witch, though it seems you won’t be controlling the titular caster but rather, one of her summoned cavalry men. Expect brutality and darker themes, but no gore. Dark fantasy from NIS? Sign me up.

Along with being an open world sandbox game (usually) comes the beloved morality system. Similarly, The Witch features a good/bad system in which certain NPCs may become hostile depending on your actions. Transitions from towns to the more gamey parts of the world are said to be completely seamless so your sandbox RPG fun will be unhindered by pesky load screens. Who wants to take a break from wreaking havoc on undeserving civilians?

While this has yet to be confirmed for a US release, I’m confident NIS America  will come through for us. We managed to get Hyperdimension Neptunia, this seems like a no-brainer. Until then however, importers can look forward to a Spring 2012 and enjoy the handful of Dengeki Playstation scans found on The Magicbox.
