Didn’t get enough of shooting mutated rats and Russian Nazis? THQ has confirmed that Metro 2033 is getting a sequel, appropriately named Metro 2034. I’m guessing that’s a working title. [Edit: Been informed the novel got a sequel called Metro 2034, so it is probably not a working name. Thanks readers!]

Details on the game are scarce, but we do know that it’ll follow in the footsteps of the first game by hopping aboard the 3D bandwagon. It will be one of four games that THQ is using to experiment with 3D technology, the original game being the first.

“We’re showing Metro 2033 in 3D right now, which Nvidia is showing as one of their key demo products,” says core games VP Danny Bilson. “We’re going to be doing a 3D version of that on Metro 2034 — the sequel. And there will be some engineering costs there, but that’s in our lowest cost centre in the world. Those games are unbelievably reasonable, they’re built in Kiev.”

Metro 2033 was a game full of great ideas, but I really hated the execution. I hope Metro 2034 brings a more refined experience, or at least a game where all the enemies aren’t Al Pacino at the end of Scarface.
