As the creative director of Ubisoft Montreal, and Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Patrice Désilets is a big deal for the company. Or, he at least was a big deal, as announcing today, courtesy of Game Informer, Patrice Désilets will be leaving the company to pursue a “creative break from the industry”. It looks like he’s gone from the company, gone from Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and pretty much gone from the industry, by the sounds of it.
Of course, this could all be some corporate mumbo jumbo. Clearly Désilets is a capable and integral member of the development team at Ubisoft Montreal, and as gameinformer pointed out, the loss of Far Cry 2’s Creative Director, Clint Hocking and producer Jade Raymond to Ubisoft Toronto shows that something is going on with Ubisoft Montreal. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he transfers off to another company in a year or two, and hopefully future Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed games won’t feel the heat once the next dev cycle rolls around. We’ll see.
